Google needed a backup service to rival iCloud that made it easy to move to a new phone without any data loss. The goal was to create a vision for a unified backup and restore experience across Android mobile devices.

Lifecycle
The lifecycle of the backup experience can be broken into two phases: restore + setup, and sync + backup.
Phase 2 of the lifecycle is passive and at it’s best it is nearly invisible.

Jessica received several videos from her friends and received a notification that she could back up her messages. She went to the Google One App to turn on message backup.
